“Collaboration empowers safety, and this document is another fantastic example of our community in action. By bringing together expertise and experience from across the industry, we can ensure that the safe deployment of NVIS is guided by both its strengths and its limitations. Ultimately, it is important that NVIS use remains targeted toward operational scenarios where its benefits outweigh its limitations.”

Understanding Night Vision Imaging System (NVIS) Capability in Offshore Helicopter Operations

There have been many discussions on the potential use of NVIS in the offshore environment for roles other than SAR to reduce the risk of CFIT or LOC-I. NVIS technology continues to advance, therefore it is considered appropriate to inform offshore industry stakeholders on the current capability of these systems. HeliOffshore’s NVIS position paper aims to provide an introduction and update to the latest NVIS capability, potential offshore use cases, and operational viability.
