HeliOffshore Conference and AGM 2026

Making It Real: Safety Without Compromise

The 2026 conference focused on how to turn industry knowledge into consistent action that delivers measurable safety improvements.. As speakers throughout the event reinforced, the offshore helicopter industry is not short of guidance, data, or best practice - the challenge is execution.

Delegates explored the industry's three leading accident categories - Loss of Control In-Flight (LOC-I), Controlled Flight Into Terrain/Water (CFIT/W), and System Component Failure (SCF) - through analyses of recent events, lessons learned, and practical discussions on how organisations can strengthen their defences.

A recurring theme throughout the conference was the importance of psychological safety and organisational culture. Discussions highlighted how leadership behaviours, trust, and open communication directly influence safety outcomes, and explored practical approaches to creating environments where people feel able to speak up, challenge assumptions, and share concerns.

The conference also examined the role of emerging technologies, implementation of HeliOffshore Recommended Practices and IOGP Report 690, safe offshore wind operations, maintenance observation programmes, and human performance initiatives. Delegates were encouraged to focus not only on learning from incidents, but on identifying tangible actions that can be taken within their own organisations.

A key outcome from the event was the introduction of HeliOffshore's draft People & Technology Charter, designed to provide a practical roadmap for implementing safety improvements across people, technology, training, operational capability, and culture.

Unfinished Business: 10 Years and Counting

Safety remains relentless work. Despite breakthroughs and successes shared over the last ten years, our collective mission has not yet been met. Lives are still lost in offshore aviation.

The HeliOffshore 2025 Annual Conference provided an opportunity to interrogate our progress over the last ten years; assess the impact of industry activities; and agree on the actions we must take, personally and collectively, to deliver real and lasting improvements to frontline safety performance.

In his closing remarks, our CEO Tim Rolfe reminded us: "Take a moment to pause - not out of caution, but out of leadership. Look again at our Safety Performance Model. Choose one recommended practice that aligns with your organisation’s most critical accident prevention goal, then use the implementation toolkit to apply it in your real-world environment.

"If you face challenges, tell us. Feedback is fuel. Together, we can improve and evolve our guidance so it works in practice and will make a real impact on frontline safety performance".
